Sarathkumar started his professional journey as a bodybuilder and journalist before entering films. During his younger days, he won the “Mr. Madras University” bodybuilding title and also worked as a newspaper delivery boy and reporter. Later, he managed a travel agency business in Chennai before getting opportunities in cinema.
He made his acting debut in the Telugu film Samajamlo Sthree in 1986. Initially, he appeared in villain and supporting roles in Tamil and Telugu films. His strong physique and screen presence helped him quickly gain attention in the South Indian film industry.
Sarathkumar became a leading hero in Tamil cinema through successful films like Suriyan, Nattamai, Suryavamsam, Natpukkaga, Maayi, Samuthiram, and Aiyaa.
